We are going to talk about these so called alien invasion movies that are supposed to be thriller, horror, sci-fi and action type movies promising to give you an insight on what aliens might look like and what they can do to you.
Unfortunately these movies either need to be more intelligent to satisfy the smart audience who is not going to buy a crap or they simply need to stop making such movies.
There are 3 movies that look replica and have caught my critique eye view.
The Darkest Hour
Skyline
Attack The Block
The movie begins with light falling from the sky. The style and graphics look exactly the same specially in The Darkest Hour and Skyline with just the neon blue and fire orange color difference of light.
The plot? There really is no smart plot of the movie. The things that happen are just supposed to be assumed or let go of. Mostly you will have to reply upon your suspension of disbelieve but trust me, the more you do that, the harder it becomes.
All these three movies begin with a bunch of friends who are having a great time all of a sudden realize light falling from the sky and sooner than they know, its an ALIEN INVASION. Everybody run for your life???
Let’s talk about The Darkest Hour 2011 Movie, first.
I will admit that I loved the graphics of this movie specially the part where these human turn into ashes instantly when they come in contact with the aliens.
But the movie fails to trigger the elements of excitement and thrills. There are too many loopholes in the movie and suspension of disbelieve totally fails.
Spoiler ALERT !!!
So the aliens cannot see the their body radiations behind the glass so why didn’t they simply make a glass box cover and walked to the submarine using that as a shield?
Pretty easy eh?
In the end, a building is collapsing over the group of survivors who are in a boat trying to reach the submarine. Now the blocks of building collapses over the boat. Sean and the others swim towards the submarine that was a few feet away but Natalie is somehow 2 to 3 miles away, hiding in a bus and shooting from a flair gun for help?
How did she get there so fast?
So assuming, she survived. As soon as she got in control, she ran 3 miles away to hide in a bus and then call for help without bothering to look for others. While Sean, as soon as he gets in control of himself, looks around for Natalie.
If the aliens are all around the world, where are they going to go using submarines? Not like they were preparing for it from long years like in 2012 so they have food and everything.
Lets move on to Skyline.
Skyline is still a better take than Darkest Hour and Attack The Block but yet it isn’t that great, really.
To begin with, why are the technologically advanced, automated, immortal aliens who have all science and space of the universe want to have the brains of human beings?
They can look around every where and sense humans but window shields blocks them from seeing the human? SERIOUSLY?
But for the sake of movie, let’s assume they need our brain.
The movie went on great and would have been better if they ended it up when Elaine and Jarrod were being sucked into the Mothership through the blue light and they have their one last kiss.
But nooooo. The directors wanted to torture us more, so they took us inside Mothership where the aliens are sucking brain from every human body and discarding the bodies.
Jarrod’s brain is sucked but Elaine is special. She is pregnant. So aliens decide to send her to the labor room
so they can have the baby brain first. Like they need that one?
So mean while Jarrod’s brain is placed in a new alien body but we see that this alien is having hard time to cope and soon as he sees Elaine being tortured in her evil labor procedure, he saves her from the other aliens and shows her signs that its him.
That’s where the movie end.
Ummm. I am not really getting the point here. Is Elaine spending the rest of her life in a Mothership without food, shelter or any security and where other Aliens want her and her child’s brain?
And finally, Attack The Block.
The movie starts with a mugging scene by the street kids. We are opened to believe that these are the bad guys but as the movie proceeds we learn that they are just kids on bad tracks who can be good when time falls.
I get that part.
But the movie as a whole fails me. The hard British accent is not annoying and pretty easy going once you have spend 10 minutes of the movie. What makes me uneasy is the story of the movie.
A bunch of young kids, teenagers, trying to protect their area from aliens? Okay, I will accept that. But you also have two younger kids, probably 10 or 12 who are ready to hunt.
The kids cannot go to the cops for help because the cops will charge them with everything that is going on about? Really? All those violent killings and merciless bloodshed will be upon the kids?
Kill me please.
In the end scene, When Moses tracks the aliens to follow him in the room and then blows the entire room, killing every alien and risking his life, the police arrests them.
So are these cops really that dumb? They don’t investigate the room to find traces of aliens so that they can believe what the kids were doing was protecting.
But then, that would be too logical, isn’t it. And this movie is all about ILLOGICAL events.
