So Chronicle 2012 uses a very good concept of the movie but then isn’t it used over a million times before too in almost millions of the same kind movie?
Spiderman, Superman, Batman, The Green Lanterns etc are all movies revolving around the same concept but all of these movies have pulled out a great story amazing movie. I wish I could say the same for Chronicle 2012.
What I do not understand is that why do Directors waste a good concept when they cannot turn it into a good movie? Wouldn’t it be better if they left the concept for a Director who can make a masterpiece movie out of it.
To begin with, everything in the movie is overly cliched and predictable.
3 boys who find an alien in a ground hole and immediately think it would be fun to touch it. The directors thought it would be so much work to show us what happens when they touch it, so the screen goes black and the next moment is shown when the 3 are on the ground again.
What next? They realize they have special powers and they start practicing it.
Nothing makes any sense and nothing connects with what is going on. To make things worse (like it wasn’t enough already) the entire movie is shown through Andrew’s camera view which makes it impossible for a person to immerse into the movie.
Andrew is a shy character who doesn’t talk or go out much has an ill mother and drunken dad who hits him frequently. Like we didn’t see that one before. Each time Andrew is abused and hit by his father, it becomes predictable that by the end of the movie, Andrew is going to hit him back as he turns super powerful.
Steve Montgomery, although is shown as the coolest kid of high school running for School Elections, is simply a very small character of the movie introduced to lighten the seriousness of the movie and have a few jokes. Easily predictable that he is going to die first.
Matt Garetty is Andrews cousin and is shown to be casually cool and careless type of person who loves life. I seriously don’t know what this character’s main intention was in the movie. Should have died but who knew, he would be the one to survive. Now that was unpredictable.
Then there is this girl who is shown frequently along with a camera and she is making a video for her blog. Really? This character was forceful because they didn’t have any girl in there, so they decided to push her in ( she didn’t really help things, you know).
The movie goes very very very slow. Really slow. I mean extremely slow ( yeah you got the point) and you will fall asleep in half the movie. The only time you will wake up is at the end when Andrew is gone crazy, Matt trying to stop him and both destroying half the city in the process.
[SPOILER ALERT!!!]
The story wasn’t thought well over and has loopholes specially in the way Andrew is killed. Matt throws a spear from statue ( I am still confused where that statue came from right in middle of the road) into Andrews body and it kills him when he was in his intense power state while in the beginning they showed that a folk bends when hit on Matt’s hand but it doesn’t go past his hand when they were only beginning to realize their powers.
If you want to waste 84 minutes of your life. Go watch this movie. Because I sure have wasted mine.
