Mehdi Hassan has been the King Of Ghazals and is known all over Pakistan & India for his romantic, sad and ever melodious songs and ghazals. He has been titled as “Shehenshah-e-Ghazal” by the Indian Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal and has been titled as “Pride Of Pakistan” by the Pakistani Nation.
It is with great sadness that we announce that this Legendary King Of Ghazals is no more with us.
Mehdi Hassan was suffering from lung, chest and urinary tract diseases since 12 years and was in Agha Khan Hospital Karachi where he was receiving his treatments.
His son told the media that they had done all preparations to take him to India for critical treatment. The night before his death, Mehdi Hassan looked relatively very healthy and spoke to his family in clear audible voice. His family felt that he was now recovering but his soul left his body the very next day in the noon.
Millions of fans in Pakistan & India are in mourning over his death. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed his grief by saying,
“Hassan brought the sub-continental Sufi sensibilities to life through his songs.”
Mehdi Hassan may not be with us anymore but he still remains in our hearts as The Legendary King Of Ghazal for his ghazal lovers and as he leaves behind a treasure of melody, he shall be remembered by it forever.
