Robert Rodriguez has made 11 films in the last ten years and, because he likes to cut the middle men out of the process, we think that his movies get made on the basis of when his interest and availability align – - instead of the other external factors the typically intrude.
His book, Rebel Without A Crew, and the thorough featurettes on the dvds of his movies have given us plenty of insight into his Mariachi-style production process.
Consequently, even though it’s been six long years since the release of the original Sin City, we were sure that the long-debated sequel would eventually get made whenever his calendar matched up with Frank Miller’s.
In an interview with MTV Geek, Miller spoke of the sequel and this seems to confirm the alignment. He’s been busy in the intervening years with The Spirit, Holy Terror and the 300 companion piece, Xerxes, of course, but he says that he and Rodriguez have been brainstorming in his studio lately. They could be shooting SIN CITY 2 as soon as next spring, actually…
The question?
What will the sequel be about?
Confirming the long-held assumptions, the sequel will adapt A Dame To Kill For and the short, Just Another Saturday Night (the Dwight and Marv stories, respectively,) and then feature brand new portions starring Jessica Alba.
That would certainly corroborate the earlier discussions of a sequel to That Yellow Bastard which would show Nancy Callahan taking revenge on the mob who took Hartigan away from her…
Maybe not.
Why? Because by Miller’s own admission, these ideas flux frequently, so that all could certainly change. We think A Dame To Kill For will probably have to be re-worked because of Shellie’s prominent role and Brittany Murphy’s tragic death. We highly doubt the character will be recast.
So… Looking forward to seeing Jessica Alba in that raunchy outfit again?
