This thriller story is about a journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, who is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing for forty years by Lisbeth Salander, a young computer hacker.
2. The Adventures Of Tintin:
This Family, Fantasy 3D extravaganza was also released on 21st December 2011 with a slamming cast of Daniel Craig, Simon Pegg, Jamie Bell, Cary Elwes and Andy Serkis. Directed by Steven Spielberg revolves around Tintin and Captain Haddock who set off on a treasure hunt for a sunken ship commanded by Haddock’s ancestor. Another Steven Spielberg directed adventure drama is “War Horse” that was released on 25 December 2011. With big names in cast like Emily Watson, Toby Kebbell and Benedict Cumberbatch the story of this adventurous movie is about a young man named Albert who enlists to service in WWI after his beloved horse, Joey, is sold to the cavalry. Albert’s hopeful journey takes him out of England and across Europe as the war rages on.
5. The Darkest Hour:
The thrilling action movie “The Darkest Hour” stars Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Rachael Taylor, Joel Kinnaman and Max Minghella. A 25 December 2011 release, the movie was shot in Moscow where five young people lead the charge against an alien race who have attacked Earth via our power supply.
6. We Bought A Zoo:
With a powerful cast of Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church, Colin Ford and Maggie Elizabeth Jones, this Cameron Crowe directed dramatic movie is set in Southern California. A father moves his young family to the countryside to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo.
7. In The Land Of Blood And Honey:
This is the directorial debut of the famous and sexy Angelina Jolie. Released on 23 December 2011, the movie has an all foreign cast (as told by Angelina Jolie in ’60 Minutes’). Starring Rade Serbedzija, Zana Marjanovic, Goran Kostic and Branko Djuric, this Romantic War movie tells the story of the Bosnian War in which Danijel, a soldier fighting for the Serbs, re-encounters Ajla, a Bosnian who’s now a captive in his camp he oversees. Their once promising connection has become ambiguous as their motives have changed.
8. Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close:
Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks, James Gandolfini, John Goodman and Viola Davis come together to tell the dramatic story of a nine-year-old amateur inventor, Francophile who with a pacifist searches New York City for the lock that matches a mysterious key left behind by his father, who died in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The movie was released on 25 December 2011.
9. Black Gold:
Set in the 1930s Arab states at the dawn of the oil boom, the story centers on a young Arab prince torn between allegiance to his conservative father and modern, liberal father-in-law. This dramatic movie stars Tahar Rahim, Mark Strong, Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto and Riz Ahmed and was released on 23 December 2011.
10. Pina:
Released on 23 December 2011, ‘Pina’ is a tribute to the famous choreographer Pina Bausch, with a cast including Regina Advento, Malou Airaudo, Ruth Amarante, Pina Bausch and Rainer Behr. It is a musical documentary worth watching.
